Parklife Festival 2018 returns to Heaton Park on the 9th-10th June and looks set to be the best one yet. The biggest festival in the North West will host thousands of music fans this summer and if you’re on the fence about whether or not you should join them, here’s some ‘pros’ to add to your list!
Design
From the annual lineup poster to the visual design of the festival, Parklife certainly is recognisable and unique in terms of its aesthetics and design. The festival is always branded as an almost psychedelic, eclectic affair with its illustrations of one-eyed pyramids, astronauts floating about with superheroes, and winged creatures of some description, which perfectly sells Parklife as an experience that is out of this world, maybe quite strange at times, but a festival like no other. The website itself is a masterpiece with its own “Mancunia” logo and interactive information, which is also translated to the physical elements of the festival including stage design and in turn the atmosphere of Parklife is said to be like nothing else. ‘What has the design got to do with going to the festival?’ I hear you ask – simply the absolute effort that has been put into making Parklife different and something to be proud of. Who wouldn’t want to be involved in such a creative project?
Food & Drink
Parklife have upped their game this year in terms of drinks, with VIP cocktail tasting ahead of this year’s shindig taking place last week it would seem that festival-goers are in for a real treat. It also seems that there will be even more choice food-wise this year with your classic festival burgers and chips, but also more vegetarian and vegan offerings than you can shake a glass of almond milk at! But luckily there will still be lashings of pulled pork and kebabs for all you carnivores – perfect for a (hopefully) sunny weekend. With such a delicious looking grub offering, you might consider buying a Parklife ticket just for the food and drink alone!
Stages & Location
With eight stages to accommodate this year’s stellar lineup you’ll be spoilt for choice. Alongside the Parklife Stage, the Sounds of the Near Future Stage will showcase the best upcoming talent from all over the world, while The Palm House and The Hangar will house mostly established acts that many festival-goers know and love. As well as fantastic staging and distribution of acts, Parklife is famously hosted at Heaton Park which has quickly become a nationally renowned venue, with bands such as The Courteeners and even Oasis back in the day performing there for thousands. As well as being a great venue for the festival, Heaton Park is only a 20 minute tram ride outside of central Manchester, so no need to fret when it comes to getting there. If coming in by train this ticket will likely be valid to travel by Metrolink as well but there is also the option of a £5 shuttle bus if all else fails so travel is no excuse not to go!
Line-up
Obviously the biggest pull for any festival is the line-up and Parklife 2018 is not set to disappoint. With the definition of Mancunian, Liam Gallagher, headlining on the Sunday and Everything Everything playing earlier in the day, all you indies are well and truly catered for. If your taste is more on the hip-hop rap wavelength then you’re in luck, with both J Hus and A$AP Rocky playing whilst Bugzy Malone and Skepta provide the grime tunes. In classic Parklife style ,of course house and dance music will be coursing through its veins with Denis Sulta, Annie Mac and Gorgon City in attendance to name just a few, alongside some all-rounders thrown in for good measure including Lorde – someone everyone can’t help but love.
