New Noise: The Blinders

Hailing originally from Doncaster, The Blinders formed in 2014 and have since been bringing out bangers that everyone needs to know about. Having relocated to Manchester after forming, trio Thomas, Charlie and Matthew bring together dystopian, political ideas with punk rock, psychedelic sounds to create truly epic tunes that make an impact on first listen and as a live performance.

The Blinders are no strangers to literature and film worlds, with songs like “Ramona Flowers” (Scott Pilgrim vs The World) and “Brave New World” (as in Aldous Huxley), which from the get go makes them likeable and their complicated lyrics are refreshing and often witty. Unsurprisingly, the band have previously been on tour with the likes of The Charlatans, Cabbage and The View and seem to take all the best bits of those influences and blend them into a 21st Century punk dream.

Ease into material from songs like “Gotta Get Through” and “L’etat c’est moi” in order to know what they’re about, and catch their debut album Columbia when it is released in September which comes with its very own plea to “Indulge in the drudgery, under an absolute autocracy” and “Know your place and serve your time, Roll of Thunder, Hear Our Cries” (amongst other things), which is a not so subtle nod to what’s included on the album.

The Blinders have an array of mostly small gigs coming up pre-album release, from The Castle & Falcon in Birmingham to the Buyers Club in Liverpool. There’s bound to be somewhere near you hosting their up and coming talent. Info on future tour dates and general band updates can be found on the band’s Facebook and Twitter.
