Album titles can tell a lot about a band. They can also tell you absolutely nothing. But since The Subways have just announced another UK tour, let’s take them as an example.
After beating 5000 applicants, they won a competition slot to play Glastonbury, The Subways released their debut album Young For Eternity in 2005. Bless them. That feeling of endless summers and the thought that there new-found fame could last forever.
Fast forward three years and they released All or Nothing. A more mature band now, and a very experienced live act. Gone is the thought that there is endless time, they need it all, now or never. They are festival regulars and the album title also eludes to what you would get seeing them live on stage. They finished the album cycle in style by performing in front of a 75,000 strong crowd at Rock Am Ring Germany. Now, after another 3 years, The Subways have recorded album number three.
Money and Celebrity will be released on 19th September 2011. Clearly the band are commenting on their status as and as a famous man once said “only write about what you know”. Produced by Stephen Street in London and released on Cooking Vinyl, the first single will be entitled It’s A Party – read into that what you will.
